A Cool Project: Gone Rogue

DSC_0722.jpg

Thrift shopping is a go-to past time of mine. I really enjoy picking out the hidden treasures that may lie hidden beneath piles of all sorts of odds and ends.

I found a Cadet Kelly worthy army jacket (props to those of you who know that Hilary Duff reference, cinematic gold) in a thrift shop the other weekend. This jacket even has the old name written inside and everything, Gulliver. Fitting I think, I don’t know why. I picked it up and decided to shoot it together with a cute ensemble.

Meet my muse, Kelsey Garfoot. She has extensive experience in sweetness and also textile design. She is magic when creating crystal-embroidered items and body jewelry. You may remember her from a shoot I did this past summer with her and some of her friends! Feel free to scroll back a page or two to see that, called A Primitive Project. Enjoy our little collaboration, which I am sure will not be the last.

One of my closest friends Christina looking flawless as per usual in her Third Ward Loft. She was gracious enough to let me raid her closet and basically rearrange her apartment for a day to take some photos! The brunette beauty enjoys hanging out in her living room and cuddling with Snuggles, her fluffy pup, and Joseph, her botany expert beau. Scattered around her cool + chic bungalow are many different blooming plants of various shapes and sizes. “Plants are food for the soul. They breathe life indoors and filter out harmful or negative toxins. They make a house a home and fill it with greenery and joy.” In other words, plants + place = good vibes.

Christina has a wonderful eye for selecting the chicest of the chic when it comes to her wardrobe, or pretty much anything else. Christina’s closet pictured below, is dripping with eye-catching textures, like monochromatic prints, furs, leopard pumps, and lots of leather, must haves for any “it” girl.

Now we’re on our way to grab some much needed grub. Burgers anyone?

Thistle + Hummingbird: Brunch at the Plaza

Brunch At The Plaza

Sundays are meant for sleeping in, stressing less, eating more, and having some fun. Work hard play hard am I right? My friend Kat and I decided to have a mid afternoon breakfast pick me up. We headed to one of our favorite places, Cafe at the Plaza.

I wanted to share some fun and beautiful memories we captured below.

DSC_0271 (1)

Of course, before we left we had to snap some shots in our sundresses. Kat is wearing a vintage chiffon skirt from DKNY and vintage JCrew floral printed slip all from Lela Boutique in the Third Ward of downtown Milwaukee, WI.

Theory booties on me to the right + Sam Edelman kitten heels on Kat to the left (oh the irony).

Because I live a hop, skip and a jump away from said Cafe, I decided it was best we meet at my place and then walk over. We took a stroll down my street and saw some Spring time sights and delights. Below is Kat slinging her Coach cross body while en route to food.

A Pastel Project: ‘Pearly Skies’

This week has been so beautiful weather wise. I love to get outside when the weather is nice and shoot, which is exactly what I did this weekend! I had such a fun time shooting my muse of the moment, Sasha. I really wanted to capture the mood, so I stuck to more muted and pastel tones when I selected the wardrobe options. I put a little red on the lips because you always need a pop of something (not just champagne) when you throw together a fun look for Spring.

Enjoy

We didn’t travel far to get these shots. In fact, this was actually behind a coin laundry building that was only just around the corner, and the white, tarnished walls were the perfect backdrop for this minimalistic concept.

I loved how this story turned out. I had so much trouble having to select only a few!

I met Jessica just a few years ago when I modeled for her. She was a complete pleasure to work with; super easy and the photos from that shoot turned out amazing. She has such a keen eye for capturing a serene, simple and beautiful moment. She is so passionate and her hard work and dedication to photography really shows up in her work. I asked her a few questions and below are her answers! I have also decided to feature her latest shoot with one of my dear friends as her muse! These shots ooze coolness. I couldn’t choose just one, so naturally, I chose them all.

Q: Where did you grow up?

A: “I grew up in Franklin, WI and that’s actually where I still live! I’ve jumped around a little bit but have always stayed in the Milwaukee area.”

Q: Did you go to school for photography?

A: “I did! I attended Milwaukee Area Technical College and after three years I received an  Associates Degree in Applied Science in Photography. To me, continuing your education is so important. There’s always a level of impressiveness when you’re self taught, but there is so much that school can teach you. I also want to point out that I am really happy with the choice of a going to technical college. They really drilled the tech aspect of photography into our heads and it really gave us a leg up when it came to our competition.”

Q: How did you know you wanted to mainly focus on photography?

A: “I was pretty dead set on what my major was going to be at the beginning of my senior year of high school. I chose to study photography because as soon as I started shooting, I couldn’t imagine myself doing anything else. Before photography, I wanted to be Violin Performance major; but in 2008, when I started dabbling in photography, there was really no turning back.”

_320_355

Q: What do you love most about photography?

A: “There is a lot to love about photography. I could say that I love the fact that I get to bring what I envision to life. I also get the opportunity to work with some of the most talented people. I think photography serves as such an inspirational platform and it’s cool to think that my images could be inspiring someone right now! It’s such a relevant art form that will never die. We can all connect and relate with each other through imagery.”
